In practice since 1987, Dr. Ira D. Papel specializes in Facial Plastic Surgery. He is board certified in both Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. These disciplines combine the functional and aesthetic concerns of the nose, face, head and neck into one integrated specialty.
Dr. Papel believes that this knowledge of the latest techniques in both specialties, combined with an extensive surgical experience in rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty provides the best in patient care
Dr. Papel is a past president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and serves as vice president of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is an Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he is a co-director of the Facial Plastic Surgery fellowship.
His textbook, entitled Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has become an important resource for surgeons around the world. He has also published extensively on the subject of rhinoplasty, with more than 100 publications in medical journals and textbooks. Dr. Papel is a frequent invited speaker at facial plastic surgery meetings. He has served as a visiting professor at more than 27 universities in the USA, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Asia.
In June 2007 Dr. Papel will be directing Advances in Rhinoplasty 2007. This major rhinoplasty course, given by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, is the largest rhinoplasty specific course in the world,
and attracts surgeons from more than 40 countries.
